WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ohio Congresswoman Emilia Sykes (OH-13), an Akron Democrat and one of three Black women in Congress from Ohio, has issued  a statement questioning President Donald Trump's actions in Venezuela:

Trump on Saturday announced that the United States had successfully captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, during a large-scale military operation. The president said that there were no civilian casualties and that the U.S. will govern Venezuela for now.

"Nicolas Maduro is an authoritarian who has caused real suffering for the Venezuelan people, and they deserve a democratic future, " said Rep. Sykes. "But that does not give President Trump the right to launch military action without Congress, without clear goals, and without explaining to the American people where this is headed.

The Operation (Operation Absolute Resolve)

Capture: Elite U.S. forces, including Delta Force and the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team, conducted an overnight raid in Caracas, removing Maduro and Flores from their fortified residence.
